Background

Large campus website initiatives are managed through official projects that are approved and conducted over a period of time until completion. Occasionally, sub-sites will be added to (or removed from) the campus web. This process describes how to request additional sub-sites (or deletions) for an existing, active campus web utilizing UMS WordPress.

The proposed additional site will use the existing campus WordPress theme. No additional plugins or styles should be needed as part of this request.

Prepare and Submit the Request

The campus site administrator can write the site request in an email to: webtech.support@maine.edu. Please include the following in the request

  • Campus web domain affected (e.g. umf.maine.edu)
  • Site title for creation / deletion
  • If a specific site copy is needed, supply the site to copy from into the new site.

New site requests should also include:

  • Site description
  • Site friendly URL (if different from the title, with dashes)
  • Special tools / functionality needed? (not enabled by default):

Sample Scenario

A sub-site of the UMS-hosted UMA WordPress installation, using the theme and plugins approved for the main campus website: This option would need to be approved by the campus or group managing the main site – that is, a sub-site on www.uma.edu would need to be approved by the site administrator of www.uma.edu – with editor support and training provided by the campus site administrator. For the USM public website (usm.maine.edu), one can request a new sub-site using this online form: Request a New USM Web Sub-Site.
